Las Vegas Events in January 2027: CES, the Collision Week and a National Championship
January is the most convention heavy month on the Las Vegas calendar, and January 2027 is the heaviest version of it in years: the largest trade show on earth, a 100,000 person two show collision, an adult industry expo the same week, and a college football national championship to close the month. If you are visiting for leisure, the trick is knowing which week you are actually booking into.
The month, ranked by visitor impact
| Dates | Event | Crowd | Hotel pressure | Book by |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jan 6 to 9 | CES (LVCC, Venetian Expo, ARIA, citywide), media days Jan 4 to 5 | 148,392 audited in 2026 | Extreme | Now; CES hotel blocks and pass prices step up through the fall |
| Jan 10 | Las Vegas Marathon, relaunched on the Strip, start and finish at The STRAT | Weekend leisure scale | Moderate | Routine; expect Sunday morning road closures on the north Strip |
| Jan 11 to 14 | PPAI Expo, Mandalay Bay (exhibits Jan 12 to 14) | About 16,000 (estimate) | Moderate | The soft week: best January value, south Strip focused |
| Jan 18 to 22 | The January Collision: World of Concrete (exhibits Jan 19 to 21, LVCC) + SHOT Show (Jan 19 to 22, Venetian Expo + Caesars Forum) + AVN Expo and Awards (Jan 20 to 23, Virgin Hotels) | About 100,000 convention visitors, plus AVN | Extreme | Immediately; see the collision guide |
| Jan 24 to 28 | Las Vegas Market, World Market Center downtown (trade only) | Thousands of buyers | High (overlaps the championship) | Early; organizers warn of citywide compression |
| Jan 25 | College Football Playoff National Championship, Allegiant Stadium, 4:30 PM | 65,000 seat sellout plus fan events | Extreme for Jan 23 to 26 | Book refundable now; finalist fanbases arrive after the Jan 14 to 15 semifinals |
Weather and crowd context
January is Las Vegas winter: average highs around 58 to 60 degrees, nights near freezing, and the pools are mostly closed or heated only at select resorts. The crowds are business crowds: lanyards, expense accounts and early nights midweek, which makes January the best month of the year for show tickets and restaurant reservations outside the event zones, and the worst for last minute hotel deals near a convention campus.
Where to stay, by week
- CES week: anything on the Monorail spine or near the Venetian Expo books first. Leisure visitors should price downtown and the south Strip and monorail in.
- January 10 to 17 (the soft week): the month's real sale. Center Strip rates dip between CES and the collision; PPAI's crowd sits at Mandalay Bay, leaving the center and north Strip soft.
- Collision week: there is no cheap side of the Strip (the two anchor campuses feed the same room pool). Downtown and off Strip are the relief valves; see the collision guide for the zone by zone play.
- Championship weekend: Allegiant Stadium events pull the south Strip (Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur) up first; Market pulls downtown up the same days.

Frequently asked questions
What is the busiest week in Las Vegas in January 2027?
Two weeks compete. CES week (January 6 to 9, about 148,000 attendees) is the biggest single event. But the week of January 18 to 22 stacks World of Concrete at the Convention Center (47,400+ registered professionals in 2026), the SHOT Show at the Venetian Expo and Caesars Forum (53,000+) and the AVN Expo at Virgin Hotels into the same five days: roughly 100,000 convention visitors, and forward hotel watchers measured it as the most expensive January week of all.
Is January a cheap month to visit Las Vegas?
Only in the gaps. The soft spots are the days right after CES ends (roughly January 10 to 17, anchored by the PPAI Expo at about 16,000, the smallest big show of the month) and that is it: the collision week, the AVN weekend and the College Football Playoff championship on January 25 keep the rest of the month priced up. Midweek days in the January 10 to 17 window are the value play.
When is the College Football Playoff championship in Las Vegas?
Monday, January 25, 2027 at Allegiant Stadium, 4:30 PM Pacific. The finalists are decided in the January 14 and 15 semifinals, so the two fanbases land about ten days out, the same days Las Vegas Market (January 24 to 28, downtown) opens. Market organizers have already pre secured hotel blocks and warned of citywide compression that week.
