Las Vegas Events in December 2026: Rodeo Month, the Cheap Week and New Year's Eve
December has three different Las Vegases: a convention and rodeo stack that fills the first twelve days, the cheapest hotel week of the year hiding in the middle, and the single biggest night of the year at the end. Knowing which one your dates fall into is the whole game.
The month, ranked by visitor impact
| Dates | Event | Crowd | Hotel pressure | Book by |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nov 30 to Dec 4 | AWS re:Invent, six Strip venues (Venetian, Caesars Forum and Palace, MGM Grand, Encore, Wynn) | 60,000 targeted | Extreme center/north Strip | Now; it shares the week with the two rows below |
| Dec 1 to 4 | MJBizCon, LVCC Central Hall | 30,000+ professionals | High | Monorail corridor prices up Dec 1 to 4 |
| Dec 3 to 12 | Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, Thomas & Mack, plus Cowboy Christmas at LVCC (free) | 175,846 fans in 2025 | High to Extreme | Rodeo weeks book early; NFR guide |
| Dec 2 | Downtown Hoedown, Fremont Street, free NFR kickoff concert night | Downtown capacity | Moderate downtown | Free event; just arrive early |
| Dec 14 to 23 | The quiet window: no headline events; Olivia Rodrigo at T-Mobile Dec 19 and Raiders home games Dec 20 and 27 are the only anchors | Lowest of the year | Low | The best value week of the season; Christmas guide |
| Dec 31 | Las Vegas Bowl (Allegiant, 12:45 PM) into New Year's Eve, America's Party | 345,000 projected for NYE 2025 to 26 | Extreme, the year's peak | Book months out; multi night minimums apply; NYE guide |
Weather and crowd context
December highs average in the upper 50s with nights in the 30s; pack a real jacket for Fremont Street and the rodeo walk. The first half's crowd wears boots and badges in roughly equal measure (100+ sanctioned concerts and viewing parties run nightly during NFR). Mid month the city exhales: shows run, restaurants take reservations again, and rates fall to their annual floor before Christmas week rebuilds them.
Where to stay, by stretch
- Dec 1 to 12: NFR host and sponsor properties and anything near the Thomas & Mack prices first; re:Invent takes the center Strip the same days. The overlap week (Dec 1 to 4) is the pinch point.
- Dec 14 to 23: stay anywhere; this is when the expensive hotels become the deal. Our hotel guide ranks the best value per zone.
- Dec 26 to Jan 1: book the Strip if the fireworks view matters, downtown for the Fremont party, and expect minimum stay rules either way.

Frequently asked questions
Is December a quiet month in Las Vegas?
Not in 2026, at least not at the start. December 1 to 12 stacks AWS re:Invent (60,000), MJBizCon (30,000+) and the National Finals Rodeo (175,846 fans in 2025) on top of each other. The genuinely quiet, cheap window is December 14 to 23, after the rodeo leaves and before Christmas travel builds. Then New Year's Eve (December 31) is the highest rate night of the year, with the Las Vegas Bowl at Allegiant the same afternoon.
When is the National Finals Rodeo in 2026?
Thursday December 3 to Saturday December 12, 2026, ten nightly performances at the Thomas & Mack Center (5:45 PM). Every performance is effectively a sellout (389 consecutive Las Vegas sellouts through 2025). Cowboy Christmas, the official gift show, runs the same dates at the Las Vegas Convention Center with free admission, and the free Downtown Hoedown kicks the rodeo off on Fremont Street on December 2.
What happens in Las Vegas on New Year's Eve 2026?
The Strip closes to traffic for America's Party, with fireworks from resort rooftops at midnight (the 2025 to 26 edition projected 345,000 visitors; this year's official details are traditionally announced in December). Fremont Street runs its ticketed Countdown Under the Canopy party downtown. The same day, the Las Vegas Bowl kicks off at Allegiant Stadium at 12:45 PM, so bowl fans and party visitors compress the city together from December 30.
