New Year's Eve in Las Vegas 2026: fireworks, parties, closures, and how to plan the night
By the ThingsVegas Editorial Team | Published 2026-10-21 | Last reviewed October 2026
On Thursday, December 31, 2026, Las Vegas throws the biggest street party in the country. The Strip closes to traffic and fills with several hundred thousand people, fireworks fire off the resort rooftops at midnight, the Sphere counts the city down, and every major club runs its biggest lineup of the year. It is also the most expensive and most logistically demanding night of the year here, and the people who have a great night are the ones who booked early and picked a base they never had to leave. This guide covers the fireworks, the closures, the confirmed parties and concerts, Fremont Street's alternative, and where to stay. Coming for the whole season? Start with our Christmas in Las Vegas guide.
The fireworks: America's Party at midnight
The centerpiece is America's Party, the synchronized fireworks show produced by Fireworks by Grucci and launched from resort rooftops up and down the Strip at midnight. In recent years the show has run about 8 minutes and fired from around 10 rooftops, including Aria, Caesars Palace, Fontainebleau, MGM Grand, Planet Hollywood, Resorts World, The STRAT, Treasure Island, and The Venetian, plus the off-Strip Palms, with the soundtrack simulcast on local radio and the Sphere's Exosphere serving as the official countdown clock. The specific 2026-27 theme and rooftop list are announced closer to the night, and we will update this page when they land. The best seat in the house is free: the closed Strip itself, anywhere with a clear view of the skyline. Rooms and terraces with a Strip view are the premium alternative, and they sell out first.
Strip closures and getting around
Everything about the night flows from one fact: the Strip shuts down. In recent years, Las Vegas Boulevard has closed to vehicles from roughly 6:00-6:30 PM on December 31 until the early hours of January 1, approximately between Russell Road and Sahara Avenue, with the I-15 ramps at Flamingo and Tropicana closing earlier, around 5:30 PM. Plan around it:
- Be where you are spending the night by late afternoon. After the closure, crossing the Strip corridor means walking. Pick a home base and stay in its orbit.
- The Monorail keeps moving. It has run continuously from the morning of December 31 through about 2 AM on January 2 in recent years, on its elevated line east of the Strip. It is the only transit that beats the closure.
- RTC buses: free from 6 PM on December 31 to 9 AM on January 1 in recent years, but routes detour around the closure like everything else with wheels.
- Rideshare is the worst option at midnight. Surge pricing, road closures, and designated pickup zones far from the action. Walk first, ride later.
The club lineups: confirmed for December 31, 2026
The headline rooms have announced their New Year's Eve bills, and they are the strongest single night of bookings of the year:
| Club | Resort | Headliner |
|---|---|---|
| LIV | Fontainebleau | Tiesto |
| OMNIA | Caesars Palace | Steve Aoki |
| Hakkasan | MGM Grand | Tyga |
| Marquee | The Cosmopolitan | DJ Pauly D |
| TAO | The Venetian | Ying Yang Twins |
Lineups last checked: October 21, 2026.
How to buy: presale general admission is always the cheapest door, tiers climb as they sell through, and table minimums on New Year's Eve are the highest of the year. OMNIA, Hakkasan, Marquee, and TAO all sell through the Tao Group ticket channels, and LIV sells direct. Buy from the club's official page, not a reseller, and buy now rather than in December. If a hosted crawl fits your group better, there is a New Year's Eve club crawl based at the Palms, and you can browse Las Vegas nightlife and experiences on Viator for more options. Coming in from Southern California without a hotel plan? There is even a round-trip New Year's Eve tour from San Diego with a champagne toast and midnight fireworks.
Concerts on the night
- Backstreet Boys at Sphere: a special 10 PM New Year's Eve show, the late set in a run that starts December 26. It was reported sold out early, so expect resale only.
- Jennifer Lopez at The Colosseum, Caesars Palace: the big-room residency option for the night, with tickets available at last check.
- Kings of Leon at The Venetian: the rock alternative to the DJ rooms.
- Bruno Mars at Dolby Live, Park MGM: mostly sold out at last check; resale is the realistic route.
- Jeezy: closes out his run with December 30-31 dates.

Fremont Street: Countdown Under the Canopy
Downtown runs the value alternative. Fremont Street Experience throws a ticketed party under the Viva Vision canopy, with multiple stages of live music, the canopy counting down at midnight, and fireworks from the Plaza. Last year's edition, headlined by Robin Thicke, CeeLo Green, and Common Kings, cost $60 in advance ($65 after December 27), was 21 and over, and opened its gates at 7 PM. The 2026-27 lineup and pricing had not been announced as of October 2026; we will update this section when Fremont Street publishes them. If the Strip's scale sounds like too much, this is the night to be downtown: smaller, cheaper, and easier to leave.
New Year's Eve dinner
Dinner is the most under-booked part of the night. Many top restaurants switch to prix fixe holiday menus with seatings timed to finish before the closure, and the best rooms go first. Two proven plays: Top of the World at The STRAT, a specialty prix fixe with a DJ, a champagne toast, and a rotating view of the fireworks; and the terrace tables at Ocean Prime, built for watching the show over dinner. Tao Group's restaurants (TAO Asian Bistro, Hakkasan Restaurant, Beauty & Essex) run seatings that pair dinner with entry to their clubs afterwards, which solves the two-bookings problem in one reservation. Whatever you pick, reserve early, choose an early seating if your party is across town, and confirm whether your booking includes club entry before you count on it.
Where to stay
December 31 is the most expensive hotel night of the year in Las Vegas, with rates several times a normal weeknight, and the best-located rooms sell out well ahead. Stay on the Strip, in the property where you are partying if you can, so the closure never becomes your problem.
- The STRAT: fireworks views from the tower and Top of the World, usually the best value on the Strip itself. Check STRAT rates on Expedia
- Caesars Palace: OMNIA downstairs, the Colosseum for Jennifer Lopez, and the middle of everything. Check Caesars Palace rates on Expedia
- Fontainebleau: Tiesto at LIV in the building, at the north end near The STRAT fireworks. Check Fontainebleau rates on Expedia
- Venetian: TAO and Kings of Leon on site, all suites, and easy access to the center Strip. Check Venetian rates on Expedia
- MGM Grand: Hakkasan in-house and the biggest party footprint on the south Strip. Check MGM Grand rates on Expedia
- Resorts World: a launch rooftop in recent years and a slightly calmer north Strip base. Check Resorts World rates on Expedia
One money move: if your dates flex, arrive December 30 or earlier and leave January 2 or later. The shoulder nights are far cheaper than the 31st, and the city stays in party mode all week, running straight out of the Christmas stretch covered in our Christmas guide.
Survival tips for the night
- Dress for standing outside. December nights drop toward 40 degrees. The clubs want upscale attire; the street wants a coat. Solve both.
- No glass on the street. Annual security rules ban glass containers in the party zone; plastic and cans only.
- Charge your phone and agree on a meeting point. Networks clog at midnight and groups get separated. A dead phone plus a closed Strip is the classic NYE failure mode. A portable charger from our portable chargers guide earns its pocket space tonight.
- Hydrate and pace. It is a long night at altitude-level dryness, and the party starts hours before midnight.
- Leave after the rush. If you are not staying on the Strip, wait out the first hour after midnight before trying to move. Prices and crowds both fall fast.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where are the New Year's Eve fireworks in Las Vegas?
The fireworks are launched from resort rooftops along the Strip at midnight as part of the America's Party celebration, produced by Fireworks by Grucci. In recent years the show has run about 8 minutes, fired from around 10 rooftops including Aria, Caesars Palace, Fontainebleau, MGM Grand, Planet Hollywood, Resorts World, The STRAT, Treasure Island, and The Venetian, with the Sphere's Exosphere serving as the official countdown clock. The best free viewing is anywhere on the closed Strip itself. The exact 2026-27 rooftop list is announced closer to the night.
Does the Las Vegas Strip close on New Year's Eve?
Yes. Las Vegas Boulevard closes to vehicles for the party, in recent years from about 6:00-6:30 PM on December 31 until the early hours of January 1, roughly between Russell Road and Sahara Avenue, and the I-15 ramps at Flamingo and Tropicana close earlier, around 5:30 PM. Once the Strip closes, the only ways to move are on foot, by Monorail, or not at all, so be at your venue well before the closure. RTC buses have run free from 6 PM on December 31 to 9 AM on January 1 in recent years.
What are the best New Year's Eve parties in Las Vegas in 2026?
The confirmed headline club nights for December 31, 2026 are Tiesto at LIV (Fontainebleau), Steve Aoki at OMNIA (Caesars Palace), Tyga at Hakkasan (MGM Grand), DJ Pauly D at Marquee (The Cosmopolitan), and the Ying Yang Twins at TAO (Venetian). For a concert instead, the Backstreet Boys play Sphere at 10 PM and Jennifer Lopez plays The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. Buy club tickets early: presale tiers sell through fast and door prices on the night are the highest of the year.
How expensive is Las Vegas on New Year's Eve?
It is the most expensive night of the year. Hotel rates for December 31 run several times a normal weeknight, club tickets and table minimums peak, and prix fixe dinners replace regular menus at many restaurants. The way to soften it is timing: arrive December 28-30 or stay past January 1, when rates fall back, and book the December 31 pieces (room, club ticket, dinner) as early as you can. The week before Christmas, December 13-23, is by contrast one of the cheapest stretches of the year.
Can you drink on the Strip on New Year's Eve?
The Strip becomes a pedestrian party zone once it closes to traffic, and the atmosphere is closer to a street festival than a normal night. Expect heavy security screening at casino entries, bag checks, and a large police presence. Glass containers are a bad idea and get confiscated in the annual NYE security rules; bring drinks in plastic or cans, carry your ID, and expect to be carded at every door, since every club and casino floor is 21 and over enforcement all night.
What is happening on Fremont Street on New Year's Eve?
Fremont Street Experience runs its own ticketed party under the Viva Vision canopy, called Countdown Under the Canopy, with live bands, DJs, and fireworks from the Plaza at midnight. Last year's edition cost $60 in advance and was 21 and over with gates at 7 PM. The 2026-27 lineup and pricing had not been announced yet as of October 2026, so check the Fremont Street Experience site closer to December.
