NFR Las Vegas 2026: the first-timer's guide to tickets, viewing parties, and Cowboy Christmas
By the ThingsVegas Editorial Team | Published October 24, 2026
For 10 nights every December, Las Vegas trades sequins for cowboy hats. The Wrangler National Finals Rodeo runs Thursday, December 3 through Saturday, December 12, 2026 at the Thomas & Mack Center at UNLV, with performances at 5:45 PM nightly. It is the championship of professional rodeo, and it lands in what used to be the quietest stretch of the Vegas year: 175,846 fans attended in 2025, every performance has sold out for decades (379 consecutive sellouts through 2025), and the event is signed to stay in Las Vegas through 2035. This guide is the visitor layer: how to get in, what you are watching, where to watch without a ticket, and where to stay. Part of our Las Vegas sports guide.

The 7 events, explained in one pass
Every performance runs the same seven events, so one ticket shows you the full championship picture. The top 15 competitors in each event qualify for the NFR, and world titles are decided on combined earnings across the 10 rounds.
- Bareback riding: the rider holds a leather rigging handle on a bucking horse for 8 seconds, spurring in rhythm. Pure timing and toughness.
- Steer wrestling: a mounted cowboy leaps from a running horse onto a steer and wrestles it to the ground. The fastest way to understand why they call them bulldoggers.
- Team roping: two riders, one rope each: the header catches the steer's horns, the heeler catches its hind legs. The only true team event.
- Saddle bronc riding: rodeo's classic event, one hand on a braided rein, judged on control and style as much as survival.
- Tie-down roping: horse and rider work as one to rope a calf, dismount, and tie three legs against the clock.
- Barrel racing: the women's marquee event, a cloverleaf sprint around three barrels where hundredths of a second decide everything.
- Bull riding: 8 seconds on 2,000 pounds of spinning bull. The closer, and the loudest the building gets.
How to get tickets for a rodeo that always sells out
Start from the honest fact: face-value tickets go fast, and all 10 performances will sell out. That does not mean you cannot go. It means you use the routes built for exactly this problem:
- Official AXS resale: AXS is the NFR's ticketing partner, and its official resale marketplace is the safest way to buy a guaranteed seat from another fan. Prices move with the round: early weeknights are the softest, the final Saturday is the peak.
- Resale reality: when we checked, resale listings averaged about $581 to $602 a ticket with entry prices from about $92. Set a budget, target rounds 1 to 5 (December 3 to 7) for value, and expect the last weekend to cost real money.
- NFR Access passes: if a reserved seat is out of reach, in-building NFR Access passes at about $70 to $80 put you inside the Thomas & Mack experience, with the party areas, screens, and atmosphere, without a fixed seat.
- One round is enough: every performance runs all seven events, so a single night gives a first-timer the complete show. Fans chasing a specific title race should aim for rounds 9 and 10 (December 11 and 12), when the championships are decided.
Watching without a ticket: the viewing party scene
NFR week runs a parallel festival for everyone who could not get a seat. Resorts across the city screen every performance live at viewing parties, many of them free to walk into, with the rodeo crowd, concerts after the final bull, and western dance floors. South Point acts as the unofficial headquarters of the whole week, with its own viewing scene and a heavy roster of rodeo programming. Arrive well before the 5:45 PM start for the popular rooms, and check our guide to where to watch sports in Las Vegas for the giant-screen venues that carry the rodeo feed.
Cowboy Christmas: the other main event
Running alongside the rodeo at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Cowboy Christmas is the official NFR gift show: hundreds of exhibitors selling everything western, from custom hats and boots to furniture and jewelry, with free admission. For many visitors it is a full day of the trip on its own. Go on a weekday morning for thinner crowds, and know that the final Saturday (December 12) is the busiest shopping day of the run.
Where to stay, and the free shuttles that make it easy
Free NFR Express shuttle buses run between partner resorts and the Thomas & Mack Center throughout the rodeo, which removes the worst part of the trip: Tropicana Avenue traffic at performance time. Staying at a shuttle resort or near one is the smart play.
- South Point Hotel: the unofficial rodeo headquarters south of the Strip, full of cowboy hats all week, with its own arena and viewing scene on site. Check South Point rates on Expedia
- MGM Grand: the big Strip base for rodeo week, with a huge dining range and an easy run across to the Thomas & Mack Center. Check MGM Grand rates on Expedia
- Mandalay Bay: the polished south Strip option, a straightforward run to Thomas & Mack and a calm base away from the mid-Strip crowds. Check Mandalay Bay rates on Expedia
- The Orleans: off-Strip and west of the arena, with easier prices than the Strip and big-hotel amenities. Check The Orleans rates on Expedia
First-timer notes
- Dress the part: boots, hats, and dressed-up western wear are the norm, not a costume. You will feel underdressed in shorts, not overdressed in a hat.
- Performances run about two hours: with a 5:45 PM start, your evening is free afterward for the viewing parties, concerts, and the Strip.
- December 12 is a double-header: the NFR final shares its night with UFC 335 at T-Mobile Arena across town. If your group splits, our UFC guide covers that side of the evening.
- Book rooms early for the final weekend: the last rounds (December 10 to 12) are the peak of the run, and shuttle resorts go first.
