The Las Vegas wedding guest guide: budget, base and dress, decided

By the ThingsVegas Editorial Team | Published November 5, 2026 | Last reviewed: November 5, 2026

Attending a Las Vegas wedding costs a normal Vegas trip plus three wedding lines: a gift, one good outfit, and the group events around the ceremony. The decisions that matter are where to base yourself near the ceremony, what the venue does to your shoes, and whether desert ceremonies need transport you should not book yourself.

The base is our trip cost guide's three night model per person with the room shared. Add your own gift figure and the taxi zone for your hotel. It is a planning estimate, not a quote.

Your guest total: $1625

The taxi line is one way, from the flat zones on our airport transport guide. Double it if you taxi back as well.

Where should you base yourself?

Ceremony typeBase yourselfWhyWatch for
Strip chapel or hotel weddingCentre StripThe Strip is about 4.2 miles long; centre is one short ride from almost every chapel and reception roomEvent weekends move room rates more than any other line in your budget
Downtown weddingDowntown or centre StripThe Marriage License Bureau and the classic chapels cluster downtown, and Fremont Street carries the after partyDo not base at the far south Strip and commute to every event

Big group weddingThe couple's hotel, if they named oneGroup events, photos and rides all radiate from that baseBooking a cheaper hotel across town is a false saving once rides are priced

Room extras are the quiet budget line: our resort fees guide prices the nightly fee that sits on top of the room rate at Strip hotels, and our parking fees guide prices the car if you bring one. Read both before you decide a hotel is cheaper than the couple's pick.

What should you wear, venue by venue?

  • Hotel ballroom: standard wedding dress code, no Vegas adjustment needed. The city outside the ballroom is not the dress code inside it.
  • Chapel: smart casual to cocktail covers almost every chapel room, including the themed ones. You will walk and stand more than at a seated venue wedding, so choose shoes for a corridor, not a carpet.
  • Desert: the honest trap. Valley of Fire ceremony sites have no shade and the ground is sandstone and gravel. Wedges or flats, a breathable fabric, and sunscreen under the outfit. Our Valley of Fire guide covers the sites and the December 1 to 14 park closure, which no wedding guest should discover from an invitation.
  • Summer anything: NOAA normals put the July average high at 105 degrees. An outdoor photo stop that sounds charming in April is a health decision in July; carry water even in wedding clothes.

What is the guest timeline?

WhenDo this
On the invitationReply, then book the room the same week if the wedding lands on an event weekend; the events calendar shows what else is in town
A month outBook flights for an arrival the day before, never the ceremony morning; desert ceremonies leave early
The week beforeConfirm the group transport, the photo call time and the reception address in writing from the couple or their planner
Arrival dayRide in on the flat taxi zone or a pre priced option from our airport transport guide; keep the outfit in hand luggage
Ceremony dayBe at the named pickup or chapel early; Vegas distances lie, and a 4.2 mile Strip can take far longer than it looks

Book the base the wedding actually uses

Centre Strip bases that suit most chapel and hotel weddings:

Caesars Palace on Expedia (centre Strip, short rides both ways)

The Venetian on Expedia (suites suit groups getting ready together)

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to attend a Las Vegas wedding as a guest?

Use the trip cost model on our trip cost guide as the base: about $830 budget, $1,600 mid range or $3,700 splurge per person for three nights with the room shared, then add the wedding specific lines: your gift, one outfit you would not otherwise buy, and any group events. The calculator on this page builds the guest total from that model plus the airport taxi zone for your hotel.

Where should a wedding guest stay in Las Vegas?

Near the ceremony, not near your favourite casino. The Strip is about 4.2 miles long, so a hotel at the wrong end turns every wedding event into a paid ride. If the ceremony is in a Strip chapel, stay central. If it is downtown, stay downtown or central and ride once. If it is a desert ceremony at Valley of Fire, you will ride with the group anyway, so stay where the reception is.

What should you wear to a Las Vegas wedding?

Match the venue, not the city. A hotel ballroom wedding is normal wedding dress code. A chapel wedding runs smarter casual to cocktail, and the Elvis themed rooms forgive more fun. A desert ceremony is the trap: Valley of Fire and Red Rock have no shade and uneven ground, so block heels sink and black absorbs the heat; wear a wedge or a flat and treat the ceremony as outdoors, because it is.

How do you get from the airport to a Strip wedding hotel?

By the flat rate taxi zones priced on our airport transport guide: $21 to the south Strip, $25 to the centre and $29 to the north, checked against the official zone structure in November 2026. Rideshare prices surge around big event weekends, so the flat taxi rate is the predictable option when you land in wedding clothes with luggage.

Should you rent a car for a Las Vegas wedding weekend?

Only if the wedding itself leaves the city. For a Strip or downtown wedding, the car adds parking and resort area driving to a weekend that is already scheduled, and our parking fees guide shows what the car costs while it sits. For a Valley of Fire or Red Rock ceremony, guests usually ride the couple's arranged transport; confirm that before you rent anything.
