Source: NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information, 1991 to 2020 climate normals, Harry Reid International Airport station. Rain days are days with measurable rain. The annual total is 4.18 inches, which makes Las Vegas one of the driest big cities in America, and it is also why visitors misjudge it: dry air feels mild at 95F in the shade and dangerous at 105F in direct sun, and the same dry air drops the temperature 25 to 30 degrees the moment the sun goes down.

What are the three weather mistakes visitors make?

First, December nights. A 57F average high photographs like spring, and a 40F average low behaves like winter, especially standing still outdoors. Second, July afternoons. July's average high is 105F and NOAA's mean maximum for the month, the hot day benchmark, is 112.9F. Midday walking between casinos in July is a health decision, not an itinerary choice, and our trip emergencies guide covers the heat end of that decision. Third, the sunset drop in every month: the 25 to 30 degree fall after dark means the layer you did not bring is the story of the evening, from October patios to November race nights.

How does weather change what you book?

In winter, the pool question decides the hotel: from November to February most pools close, and the open ones run reduced hours, which our winter pools guide tables hotel by hotel. In spring and fall, weather is the reason the best time to visit argument exists at all: April and October pair the best walking temperatures with full operations. In summer, book the schedule around the heat instead of against it: pools and day trips early, shows and Fremont Street after dark, and the midday hours spent indoors on purpose. Our Las Vegas packing list converts each row of the table above into what goes in the bag, and the events pages hang the marquee dates on each month.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best month to visit Las Vegas for weather?

For walking weather, October and April: NOAA's 1991 to 2020 normals put October at 81F high and 60F low, and April at 79F and 57F, with about 2 rain days each. For pool weather without the extreme heat, May and September bracket the summer at 89F and 95F highs. The month to respect is July, at a 105F average high and a mean maximum of 112.9F.

How cold does Las Vegas get in winter?

Colder than the postcards suggest. December averages a 57F high and a 40F low, and January a 59F high and a 41F low, per NOAA normals for Harry Reid International Airport. Desert air drops 25 to 30 degrees after sunset, so a December evening on the Strip is coat weather, and most hotel pools are closed or on winter hours.

Does it rain much in Las Vegas?

No. Annual precipitation is 4.18 inches on the NOAA 1991 to 2020 normals, spread over roughly 26 days with measurable rain. February is the wettest month at 0.80 inches. The summer exception is monsoon season in July and August, when short, heavy storms can flood streets even though the monthly totals stay small.

What should I pack for Las Vegas in November?

Layers. November averages 67F by day and 47F at night, so the same day asks for a T-shirt at noon and a real jacket at 9 PM. In 2026 the F1 Grand Prix runs November 19 to 21, and grandstand and viewing nights are stationary hours outdoors in the coldest part of the day.
