Vegas update: week of July 8, 2026

The post-holiday lull lasts about one day this year. Summer League brings 30 NBA teams and their fans to town starting Thursday, two arena residencies open within the week, and the Sphere changes headliners mid-month. Here is what matters if you are visiting in the next two weeks.
NBA Summer League takes over July 9-19
Every NBA team plays at the Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion at UNLV, with multiple games daily for eleven days. Day passes get you into every game on the schedule, and the early rounds are the cheapest way to see first-round draft picks play live.
Two practical effects for visitors: mid-Strip and UNLV-area hotel rates climb for the duration, and rideshare queues near campus back up after evening sessions. If your dates are flexible and basketball is not the reason you are coming, the week after July 19 books noticeably cheaper.
The Sphere changes hands mid-month
Kenny Chesney's run ends July 11. The Backstreet Boys then close out their residency with final dates July 16-31, and these are the last chances to see that production before it ends for good.
Sphere concert tickets behave differently from show tickets: resale prices on final-week residency dates tend to rise, not fall, so waiting for a day-of deal usually backfires here.
Residencies opening and returning
Mary J. Blige brings her first residency, a story-driven production with actors narrating between songs, to Dolby Live at Park MGM July 10-18. Kelly Clarkson returns to Caesars Palace July 17-31.
Ed Sheeran plays Allegiant Stadium July 18, the same weekend the Call of Duty League Championship fills Michelob Ultra Arena at Mandalay Bay July 16-18, so that Saturday is one of the heaviest visitor days of the month. Book restaurants and show tickets for July 18 well ahead.
Elvis returns to the Westgate, 57 years later
The Westgate is recreating Elvis's 1969 opening-night concert on the same stage where it happened, on July 31, as part of a week-long festival. His stepbrother David Stanley also appears July 15 and 22 with stories from the road.
For anyone interested in Vegas history, this is the venue where the modern residency was invented.
Worth knowing this week
Resort operators are running summer rate promotions through the hottest weeks, which makes July one of the better months for room deals if you can handle 105-degree afternoons. Plan outdoor time before 11 AM, and treat matinees, casinos, and the shows running nightly as your afternoon shade strategy.
If you are here with family, WOW at the Rio runs through the summer with tickets from $45, and our summer 2026 guide covers how locals actually handle the heat.
