Las Vegas Helicopter Tours Compared: Strip Flights, Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon Landings
Las Vegas is one of the great helicopter cities: the Strip at night is a ten minute flight, and the Grand Canyon's West Rim is close enough to land in, picnic in and be back at your hotel for dinner. This page compares the real options by type, operator and departure point, with prices checked on Viator and the operators' own sites on October 26, 2026. The single most useful fact first: where your tour departs from changes what you see, and it is buried in most listings.
The tours, by type
| Tour type | Air time | From | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strip night flight | 10 to 15 min | $99 | The neon product. Best seller on Viator has 5,900+ reviews; fly after dark or not at all |
| Hoover Dam + Strip flight | 35 to 40 min | $219 | Papillon's Las Vegas terminal product; the same price on Viator |
| Red Rock Canyon flight | 30 min air only; landing version about 1 hr | $229 / $257 | The locals' canyon; landing version adds a champagne toast |
| Grand Canyon West Rim, air only | About 90 min total | $409 to $529 | No landing; the canyon from above plus Hoover Dam and Lake Mead en route |
| Grand Canyon landing + champagne picnic | 70 to 90 min + about 30 min on the floor | $459 to $599 | The flagship. Lands 3,200 to 4,000 ft below the West Rim on Hualapai land |
| Sunset landing | About 2.5 hrs door to door | $676 to $679 | Golden hour in the canyon, Strip lights on the way home |
The operators
Maverick Helicopters
Flies from its own Strip terminal (6075 Las Vegas Boulevard South), the most convenient departure in the city. Its flagship is the Wind Dancer landing tour (about $599 at the gate; comparable Deluxe landing tours list from $505 to $599 on Viator), with the Wind Dancer Sunset at $679. Hotel transfers are included on flagship products. Maverick tours on Viator.
Papillon
The Grand Canyon specialist, with two departure points you must not confuse. The Las Vegas terminal (5060 Koval Lane) flies the Strip Highlights night flight (from $99), the Hoover Dam flight (from $219) and the King of Canyons landing tour with a Strip flyover on return (from $569). The Boulder City terminal (1265 Airport Road) flies the Grand Celebration landing tour (from $529), the best value flagship, at the cost of a longer shuttle ride (pickup about 90 minutes before departure). Papillon tours on Viator.
5 Star Helicopter Tours
A smaller operator flying from its own heliport on Haven Street, south of the Strip, with Strip, Red Rock, Valley of Fire and Grand Canyon products advertised from $99. Check whether your product includes transfers; its Sprinter and SUV transfers can be an add on. Its Viator presence could not be verified at our check date, so book it direct if you choose it.
The departure point rule
- Strip or Koval Lane terminal: pickup about 60 minutes before departure; canyon tours from the Las Vegas terminal add a Strip flyover, which is either a bonus or a detour depending on your priorities.
- Boulder City: pickup about 90 minutes out; every air minute goes to the canyon and Hoover Dam, and headline prices run lower for the same landing.
- Cheapest listings anywhere: read whether hotel pickup is included before comparing prices; several budget Strip flights are meet at terminal products, and transfers appear as an add on at checkout.
Rules that surprise people
- Weight: all passengers are weighed at check in; at 300 lb (136 kg) or more you must buy an additional seat, on both Maverick and Papillon.
- ID: passengers 18+ need original government photo ID (REAL ID license or passport). Copies and phone photos are refused, without refund.
- Check in: about 45 minutes before departure, and seating is assigned by weight and balance after check in; nobody can guarantee your group sits together or that you get a front seat.
- Aircraft: both big operators fly the Airbus H130 (EC130 EcoStar), seven seats, wraparound glass, stadium style seating. Window views are good everywhere; the front middle is the prize.
- Weather: flights are weather dependent and operators cancel, rebook or refund for poor conditions. Summer afternoons (July to September thunderstorms) carry the highest cancellation risk; morning departures are the calmest and the canyon light is best then anyway.
- Fees: watch the checkout total: some Papillon products have historically added a per person fuel surcharge, and front seat or prime time requests can cost extra on some products.
Which one should you book?
- First timer, one splurge: a landing tour. The canyon floor picnic is the memory; Papillon's Grand Celebration from Boulder City is the value pick, Maverick's Wind Dancer the convenience pick.
- Short on time or money: the $99 Strip night flight; ten minutes, all neon, back at the casino in an hour. Product we verified: Las Vegas Strip Highlights by Helicopter at Night on Viator.
- Photographers: morning landing tour, or pay the sunset premium for golden hour plus Strip lights on return.
- Doing the canyon on the ground too? Compare with our day trips hub; a West Rim bus tour from $94 covers the same rim from the ground, Skywalk included in the pass structure.
Prices checked October 26, 2026 on Viator and operator sites (Maverick, Papillon). Prices vary by date, departure time and options; the figure that matters is the checkout total.
Frequently asked questions
How much is a helicopter tour in Las Vegas?
A Strip night flight runs from $99 per person (10 to 15 minutes in the air). A Hoover Dam flight (35 to 40 minutes) runs from $219. Grand Canyon West Rim flights start around $409 air only, and the flagship landing tours with a champagne picnic on the canyon floor run from about $459 to $599 depending on operator and departure point, with sunset departures around $676 to $679. Prices checked on Viator and operator sites on October 26, 2026.
What is the difference between Maverick and Papillon?
Both fly the same Airbus H130 EcoStar aircraft and both are long established operators. The real difference is the departure point. Maverick flies from its Strip terminal at 6075 Las Vegas Boulevard South. Papillon splits: its Las Vegas terminal on Koval Lane flies products that include a Strip flyover, while its Boulder City terminal products skip the Strip and put every air minute on the canyon (the Grand Celebration landing tour, from $529). Pickup logistics differ accordingly: Boulder City pickups run about 90 minutes before departure.
Can a helicopter land inside Grand Canyon National Park?
No. Landings happen at Grand Canyon West, on Hualapai tribal land, about 3,200 to 4,000 feet below the West Rim, which is why every Las Vegas landing tour goes there. Flights departing Las Vegas cannot reach the South Rim by helicopter; South Rim air products from Vegas are fixed wing and ground combinations.
What are the weight and ID rules for helicopter tours?
Both big operators weigh every passenger at check in, and passengers of 300 pounds (136 kg) or more must buy an additional comfort seat. Everyone 18 or older needs original government issued photo ID (a REAL ID license or passport); copies and digital IDs are not accepted, and check in closes about 45 minutes before departure. Seats are assigned by weight and balance, so groups are not guaranteed to sit together and front seats cannot be guaranteed.
