Mid-July is when the Strip's residency board flips. Kenny Chesney's Sphere run just ended, three new headliners open this week, and Summer League wraps this weekend. Here is what changed and what it means if you are in town.

The Sphere switches to the Backstreet Boys

Kenny Chesney closed his encore run on July 11. The Backstreet Boys now hold the Sphere with their Into the Millennium residency, running July 16 through 31 before more August dates. These are the group's current Sphere nights, and final-stretch residency dates at the Sphere tend to hold their price rather than drop, so waiting for a day-of deal usually costs more, not less.

Three residencies open at the Colosseum and Park MGM

Kelly Clarkson opens Studio Sessions at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace on July 17, running through the end of the month. Marc Anthony brings Vegas… My Way to the same building starting July 24.

Over at Dolby Live in Park MGM, Mary J. Blige's story-driven My Life, My Story production runs its final dates July 16 and 17, so this weekend is the last chance to catch it. Three different nights, three different crowds; book Colosseum tickets ahead for the Clarkson opening weekend, which overlaps with the last Summer League games and a busy Strip.

Summer League wraps this weekend

The NBA Summer League at UNLV finishes its run around July 19. Expect the mid-Strip and UNLV-area hotel demand that came with it to ease early the following week, which is the cheaper window if your dates are flexible and basketball is not the draw.

Elvis returns to the Westgate stage

The Westgate's recreation of Elvis's 1969 opening-night concert lands July 31, staged where the original happened, and his stepbrother David Stanley appears with road stories on July 22.
