The Complete Las Vegas Convention & Trade Show Guide for 2026
CES, SEMA, MAGIC, NAB — Las Vegas hosts more conventions than any other city in America. Here is everything you need to know about attending, exhibiting, and making the most of convention season.
Las Vegas hosts approximately 22,000 conventions and trade shows annually, drawing over 6 million business visitors per year. The city's infrastructure — massive convention centers, 150,000+ hotel rooms, direct flights from every major city — makes it the undisputed convention capital of America. Whether you are attending your first CES or your twentieth SEMA, this guide covers everything you need to know.
Major Conventions Calendar 2026
CES (Consumer Electronics Show) — January 6-9, 2026. The world's largest technology trade show. 180,000+ attendees across the Las Vegas Convention Center, Venetian Expo, and multiple hotel venues. Registration required (no walk-ins). Hotel prices triple during CES week — book 3-6 months in advance or stay off-Strip and Uber in.
MAGIC (Fashion Trade Show) — February 4-6, 2026. The largest fashion trade show in the Americas. Held at the Las Vegas Convention Center with 60,000+ attendees. Industry-only (must verify retail or wholesale credentials). The after-parties at Hakkasan and Marquee are legendary.
NAB Show (National Association of Broadcasters) — April 12-16, 2026. The premier media and entertainment technology show. 90,000+ attendees. Excellent for content creators, filmmakers, and broadcast professionals. The exhibit floor is overwhelming — plan your route using the NAB app before arriving.
SEMA Show (Specialty Equipment Market Association) — November 3-6, 2026. The automotive aftermarket industry's biggest event. 160,000+ attendees. Industry-only during the week, but the SEMA Cruise (a parade of custom vehicles down the Strip) happens Friday evening and is open to the public. The outdoor vehicle displays in the Convention Center parking lots are free to view.
AWS re:Invent — November 30 - December 4, 2026. Amazon's cloud computing conference. 60,000+ attendees across The Venetian, Mandalay Bay, Wynn, and MGM Grand. The keynotes are free to stream, but the in-person networking is the real value. Book hotels the day registration opens — they sell out within weeks.
Convention Venues
Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) — The largest convention center in the United States at 2.5 million square feet. The new West Hall (opened 2021) added 1.4 million square feet of exhibit space. The LVCC Loop (Elon Musk's underground Tesla tunnel) connects the halls in 2 minutes — a genuine time-saver given the building's massive footprint. Free for convention attendees.
Venetian Expo (formerly Sands Expo) — 2.25 million square feet connected directly to The Venetian and Palazzo hotels. Ideal for attendees staying at those properties — you can walk from your room to the exhibit floor without going outside. The food options inside are limited and overpriced; eat at the hotel restaurants instead.
Mandalay Bay Convention Center — 2.1 million square feet at the south end of the Strip. Connected to Mandalay Bay, Delano, and (via tram) Luxor and Excalibur. The location is somewhat isolated from the rest of the Strip — budget extra time for transportation to off-site events.
Hotel Strategy During Convention Season
Convention weeks transform Las Vegas hotel pricing. A room that normally costs $150/night can jump to $500+ during CES or SEMA. Here are strategies to manage costs:
- Book the convention's official hotel block — negotiated rates are typically 30-40% below market during peak convention weeks. These blocks sell out fast, so book immediately when registration opens.
- Stay off-Strip — Hotels in Henderson, Summerlin, or along the I-215 corridor are rarely affected by convention pricing. A 15-minute Uber ride saves $200+/night.
- Consider Airbnb — Short-term rentals in Las Vegas are legal (with permits) and often cheaper than hotels during convention weeks. Look for properties near the Monorail stations for easy convention center access.
- Book early, cancel later — Most convention-week hotel bookings are fully refundable until 72 hours before check-in. Book multiple options and cancel as your plans solidify.
Transportation During Conventions
Traffic during major conventions is brutal. The area around the LVCC becomes gridlocked from 7-9 AM and 5-7 PM. Your options:
- Las Vegas Monorail — Runs from MGM Grand to the LVCC with stops at major hotels. $5 single ride, $13 day pass. During conventions, this is often faster than driving or rideshare. Runs 7 AM to midnight (extended hours during CES).
- LVCC Loop — Free underground Tesla shuttle connecting Convention Center halls. Eliminates the 15-20 minute walk between West Hall and the main campus.
- Walk — If staying at The Venetian, Palazzo, Wynn, or Encore, you can walk to the LVCC in 10-15 minutes via the pedestrian bridge. Faster than any vehicle during peak hours.
- Rideshare — Surge pricing during convention rush hours can be 3-5x normal. Schedule rides in advance or leave 30 minutes before or after peak times.
Networking & After-Hours
The real business at Las Vegas conventions happens outside the exhibit hall. Evening events, dinners, and after-parties are where deals close and relationships form. Tips for maximizing networking:
- RSVP to everything — even if you are unsure you will attend. Convention after-parties fill up and many require advance registration.
- Bring 3x more business cards than you think you need. Despite digital alternatives, physical cards still dominate convention networking.
- Book dinner reservations early — popular restaurants on the Strip are fully booked during major conventions. Reserve 2-4 weeks in advance for groups.
- The best networking happens at hotel bars between 5-7 PM. Identify which hotels your target contacts are staying at and position yourself in their lobby bar.
